Silver Star’s Community Investment
Silver Star has been an integral member of the local community since it opened its doors many years ago. The owners, board and staff all believe it is crucial to the success of the company and to the vitality of the local communities it serves to be not only financially but also actively involved in our communities.
Each year Silver Star donates thousands of dollars to non-profits serving our local communities through a donation program called Caring for Community. We believe without their worthy causes and projects that we would not have healthy, thriving towns to call home. Additionally, the company has memberships with local business organizations like the Chamber of Commerce and sponsors employees to be involved with service organizations like Rotary International.
Events
Silver Star considers itself a major supporter of local community and scholastic events, either through sponsorship opportunities or participation. With a formal Parade Committee, the company takes pride in designing creative, memorable floats for the local parades. Silver Star currently sponsors three adopt-a-highway sections. And in Teton Valley, Silver Star organizes and sponsors a Community Clean-Up event where we invite clean up the trash uncovered by the snow each spring. Silver Star believes these are all great opportunities for our employees to get out in the community and have a little fun too!
Every spring Silver Star awards several scholarships to local high school seniors. In addition, Silver Star will sponsor seniors interested in applying for a national technology scholarship from OPASTCO.
Volunteerism
Silver Star has a formal program for community service where employees join together on teams to undertake a community service project of their choice. In addition, employees are offered the opportunity to wear jeans on Fridays in exchange for donating a dollar to the “Casual Clothing for Charity” program. At the end of the year, a non-profit will be drawn and receive all of the funds collected over the year.
Silver Star knows that in order to be successful that the company must be competent in the three areas of sustainability: economic, social and environmental. In 2008, the company began a formal sustainability program titled Lean Operations Initiative.
